2008-2009 Pre-Sitting Checklist
Advanced planning will save your pet sitter a lot of time, which will leave more time for your pet(s).
___ All forms and agreements left with sitter prior to your departure.
___ Call your vet ahead of time and leave a credit card number in case of emergency.
___ When providing an extra key, make sure it works first.
___ Have extra supplies available in the event you cannot return when expected.
___ Leave everything needed for the pet sitter in one general area.
___ If requiring night visits, put a timer on lights so we can find the keyhole easily.
___ Leave a key for a neighbor in case of an emergency or in the event of extreme weather.
___ Alert the alarm company of authorized person in home.
___ Make sure all pets are wearing their collars with identification.
___ Leave some emergency numbers behind (i.e. plumber, electrician, etc.)
___ Take our business card with you just in case you need to contact us should you be delayed.
Prepare Your Home: Make sure you did everything to prepare your home for your departure.
___ Thermostat adjusted to desired temperature level suitable for pets
___ Trash emptied and placed in outside bin
___ All toilet lids down
___ All off-limit rooms have their doors closed
___ All cabinet doors closed in both bathroom and kitchen
___ Refrigerator emptied of any food which will spoil
___ Dirty dishes cleaned and put away
___ Timers on desired indoor and outdoor lights
___ All areas of fence secure and gate is locked or closed
___ Lawn mowed and service setup if gone for extended period of time
___ All doors and windows closed and locked
___ All appliances off and unplugged
___ Washing machine & dryer lid closed
___ All supplies out for pet sitter and placed in one general area
___ Neighbor notified of absence and sitter's visits
___ Last minute instructions for sitter placed on counter
___ Mail/Newspapers held or Pet Sitter retrieve daily
___ Alarm Company alerted
___ All pets are inside home when leaving (if pet escaped, inform sitter)
